MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Connecting Markets – BeLuThai’s Role in Strengthening Belgian-Luxembourg and Thai Economic Ties
In today’s interconnected global economy, fostering strong international business relationships is more important than ever. Organizations that bridge markets create opportunities for growth, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration. Chambers of commerce play a vital role in supporting companies to navigate new markets, access resources, and build lasting partnerships.
The Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce (BeLuThai), has been a driving force in strengthening economic ties between Belgium, Luxembourg, and Thailand since 1992. Through networking events, market insights, and advocacy, BeLuThai empowers businesses to expand and thrive in these diverse markets.
In this month’s Member Spotlight, we’re excited to introduce Mrs. Siriporn Wuthilaohaphan, President of BeLuThai and Regional Director of Solvay Asia Pacific Co., Ltd., who will share her vision on fostering bilateral trade and investment, and how the Chamber continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of international commerce between Belgium, Luxembourg, and Thailand.
Can you briefly introduce the Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce (BeLuThai) and its main mission? What inspired its creation, and how has the Chamber evolved over the years?
BeLuThai was founded to foster strong economic, commercial, and cultural ties between Belgium, Luxembourg, and Thailand. Our mission is to support our members — both individuals and companies — by promoting bilateral trade, investment, and collaboration between these regions. Over the years, BeLuThai has grown from a small network of businesspeople into a well-recognized and respected platform for international business development, providing advocacy, connection, and visibility for its members.
What is your current role at BeLuThai, and what does your day-to-day look like?
As the President of BeLuThai and the Director for Solvay Asia Pacific, my role involves balancing strategic leadership and operational management. At BeLuThai, I oversee the overall direction and initiatives of the Chamber, working closely with other Board members, our Chamber members, partners, and stakeholders to ensure we continue to create value and opportunities for the business community. My daily activities range from coordinating with our team on upcoming events and member engagement to advocating for policies that support Belgian and Luxembourg businesses in Thailand.
In my responsibility at Solvay, I support the company’s operation in the region, leading the Global Operation in Supply Chain for the business of Peroxides, ensuring the implementation of Solvay’s strategy and driving value creation in business & sustainability. In addition, I am also responsible as Solvay’s representative to meet key stakeholders in Thailand.
Both roles provide me with dynamic insights and experience to bring to BeLuThai, enriching the support and opportunities we offer our members.
What types of services and support does BeLuThai provide to its members?
BeLuThai offers a range of services, including business networking opportunities, market entry support, promotional platforms, business matching, and exposure through our communication channels. Members benefit from access to exclusive events, industry insights, and direct introductions to potential partners and stakeholders, mainly in Thailand. Additionally, we have signed MOUs with 13 BeLux Chambers across Asia, enabling us to extend cross-border benefits and support for members looking to connect regionally and expand beyond Thailand.
What industries or sectors are most represented among your members?
Our members come from a wide variety of sectors including manufacturing, logistics, F&B, healthcare, legal, hospitality, education, and technology. This diversity creates a strong and balanced ecosystem where members can find new opportunities and collaborate across industries.
What are some examples of successful connections or business outcomes that have come from being part of the Chamber?
Many of our members have formed meaningful business relationships through BeLuThai’s networking events and personalized introductions. A great example is from our recent event, “The Art of Belgian and Swiss Chocolate,” which led to a successful connection and business matching between members. This collaboration is now in development and shows how the Chamber acts as a bridge between international and local companies. We also support the members to connect or have meetings with key stakeholders and authorities to support our members in business opportunities or challenges. (Sorry to keep the name confidential.)
Could you share a recent initiative, event, or milestone that you’re especially proud of?
We’re especially proud of our annual flagship event — the Annual BeLuThai Gala — which brings together more than 200 guests from the international business community. This year’s theme, “The White Lotus – Expect the Unexpected,” will take place on June 13, 2025, and promises to be our most memorable yet. It’s a great reflection of the community spirit and collaboration that BeLuThai represents.
What are some of the biggest opportunities and challenges for Belgian and Luxembourg businesses operating in Thailand?
Opportunities include Thailand’s strategic location in ASEAN, skilled workforce, and pro-business investment policies. Sectors like healthcare, smart manufacturing, green technology, and digital services offer significant potential. Challenges can include navigating local regulations, cultural differences, and ensuring sustainable market adaptation — which is where BeLuThai provides critical support.
How does the Chamber support Thai companies looking to expand or collaborate with partners in Belgium or Luxembourg?
We facilitate connections with our partner chambers and organizations in Belgium and Luxembourg, offer market entry advice, and help identify strategic partners. Through events, missions, and business matching services, we support Thai companies in accessing European markets and creating long-term partnerships.
Are there regular networking events, seminars, or business missions organized by the Chamber?
Absolutely. We host monthly networking events and topical seminars. Our events are designed to be engaging, informative, and conducive to creating meaningful business relationships.
How do you see the Belgian and Luxembourg business communities evolving in Thailand over the next few years?
While it’s always difficult to predict the future with certainty, we remain optimistic about the continued engagement of Belgian and Luxembourg businesses in Thailand. With strong foundations already in place, we expect ongoing collaboration in areas where our members have expertise — such as innovation, sustainability, and quality-driven industries. BeLuThai will continue to support this community by fostering connections, facilitating knowledge-sharing, and creating opportunities for business growth and regional partnerships.
Let’s talk a bit about you. What do you enjoy when you are not working?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, discovering new places around Thailand, and trying out local food. Traveling is also a big passion of mine, as it allows me to explore different cultures and experiences. Additionally, I love cooking, which helps me stay balanced and grounded in this fast-paced role.
