MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Forefront of Innovation since 1886 with ADL

2021 has been a challenging year and we would like to thank not only to our current members who have been holding it down throughout the pandemic, but also to our new members who joined us over the past few months.

We are excited to see what 2022 holds for us and cannot wait to continue growing and solving challenges together as a community.

We at Antares Offices know that members are a crucial part of any business centre. That’s why the first Antares Member Spotlight of 2022 features one of our longest tenants since 2014 – Arthur D. Little – the pioneer of contracted professional services.

Let’s start with the basics. Who is Arthur D. Little (ADL) and what is your role in the company?

Founded in 1886, Arthur D. Little is the first management consulting firm in the world history and, since the beginning, the firm has sought to combine technology, strategy, and innovation to deliver sustainable results for our clients.  I am the leader of Thailand office for ADL SEA.

Can you tell us a little about the history of Arthur D. Little? When was it founded, what sparked it, etc.?

The founder, whose name is our company name, was a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the chemical engineering area.

He opened a chemical-analysis office in Boston. The opening of the office was the birth of contract research, which would bridge the gap between emerging science and the practical needs of society and industry. It slowly evolved into one of the hubs of outsourced chemical R&D in the US.

But he even went a step further. In 1911, when the company had already built up 25 years of innovation management expertise, he opened the first research lab for General Motors on GM’s premises. He was not aware at that point that with the contract for outsourcing parts of research for GM, he had invented a new business model for his firm – and the industry.

Who would benefit most from your products and services?

Our clients are global/regional/local large companies, state owned enterprises, and governments.

One of the key ways in which we differentiate ourselves in the market is through our promotion and embrace of an open consulting model, which draws on a worldwide network of experts and ensures that only the best possible people address each client’s specific challenges. We work side-by-side with its clients as an integrated part of their teams, tailoring solutions that are right for them, not generic.

What has been your favorite project and why?

Personally, I prefer new business development type of projects as I can experience both of consulting work and startup mind.

What was the biggest challenge that you have faced in business and how did you overcome it?

Our biggest challenge was the retention of members and finding new good candidates. It is still challenging, but we are doing better working together with Thai core members.

How has the Covid-19 pandemic affected you and your business – positively or negatively?

Positive: we’ve been gaining more opportunities to solve new issues and support their transformation for new trend (sustainability, carbon neutral etc.)

Negative: we had few business trip opportunities as is one of our pleasures to experience the dynamics of regional/global collaboration.

Let’s talk a little about you. What do you enjoy when you are not working?

When I am not working, I like spending time with family and go out to resort places.
